Use Buenos Aires as a travel hub, expert suggests
South America has many interesting spots for culture vultures and those on gap years, it is claimed.
Travel insurance policyholders looking for a spot from which to explore Argentina and South America could find Buenos Aires is the ideal destination.
Heather Carswell, spokeswoman for Lonely Planet, says: “[It] is a great starting point for experiencing the Argentinean culture and a good hub for travelling onwards to explore the rest of the country.”
It is important to be aware that the area is not particularly close to other locations, but it will offer an array of transport methods for those looking to move onwards.
For example, Ms Carswell explains it will be necessary to take long bus rides or shell out for internal flights to explore the whole of Argentina, as it spans almost 3,500 km in length.
A journey to Igazu Falls on the Brazilian border is well worth a visit, as the expert describes this as “one of South Americas greatest natural wonders”.
The Patagonian glaciers and spots such as Mendoza, Caroline and Chos Mala in the mountainous western region will also provide tourists with plenty of natural attractions, Ms Carswell adds.
Individuals who plan to head over to Brazil could consider Sao Paulo, which tends to be particularly popular among those on gap years.
It offers “incredible nightlife” and has plenty of bars, live music venues and nightclubs to keep people entertained.
An English vibe can be found in the town of Paranapiacaba, which was founded by the British-owned Sao Paolo Railway Company, the representative adds.
Statistics from STR Global on hoteliers in the Americas during May 2011 discovered Sao Paulo saw an average daily rate increase of 35.3 per cent.
