Jetstar, JAL in joint venture

Some Jetstar flights to Bali will resume on Friday, although many remain stranded by volcanic ash.

JAPAN Airlines will enter the low-cost carriers market through a joint venture with Qantas subsidiary Jetstar, a report says.

Japans top business newspaper, Nikkei, said on Friday the Japanese airline will begin low-cost flight services in Japan next year.

The airline, known as JAL, also aims to expand low-cost services on international routes.

JALs joint venture will be with the Jetstar unit of Australian flag carrier Qantas Airways.

It will be capitalised at Y10 billion to Y20 billion ($A115 million to $A230 million), the paper said.

Hotels attractive option during LA’s feared, 405 freeway closure

LOS ANGELES – How are Los Angelenos going to survive the July 15-17 closure of the crucial 405 freeway, which is expected to cause a gridlock nightmare? (The event has even been dubbed “car-mageddon.”)

Well, if Tim Leiweke is any indication, a good number of people may bunk in a hotel near their office.

Leiweke, of course, isn’t your average worker. He’s CEO of AEG Worldwide, downtown LA’s high-profile developer that wants to bring an NFL team to LA and also owns the year-old, vibrant Ritz-Carlton/JW Marriott hotel tower.

“I am moving here with my wife and dogs for four days,” he told me in his AEG office, which overlook the 57-story hotel tower.
