While British weather can never be relied upon to deliver a sunny day, it seems people staying in Sussex holiday cottages may be more likely to catch some rays.

A new study by the Met Office found that West Sussex is the sunniest county in the UK and Bognor Regis is the best beach resort for sunshine.

So if you are planning a trip to the south coast, make sure to pack your sunglasses and tanning lotion – and perhaps put a raincoat and umbrella in the car just in case.

According to the Met Office, which looked at weather patterns over the past 29 years, West Sussex enjoys an average 1,902 hours of sunshine each year, just ahead of second-placed Devon with 1,710 hours.

With the hottest day of the year recorded on Sunday (June 26th), let’s hope it is a sign of things to come, so we can all enjoy plenty of barbeques and sun-filled summer days out.
