What a difference a few days make. Last weekend, I went for a long walk along the frozen canals of Amsterdam and in the countryside. There were many activities on the ice in Amsterdam a classical concert, people partying, speed-skating competitions and many others, like me, who simply went for a stroll. Today, theres hardly any sign left of those gorgeous winter scenes. I took many photos but this one is quite special: taken while I was out on a walk in the Martin Luther King park in Amsterdam.

Olympic legend and unlikely superstar Eddie the Eagle took to the skies earlier this week to help launch low cost airline bmibaby’s new route to Geneva.
The new ski route straight to the slopes, actually begins on December 17 from Belfast City Airport and will operate twice a week Saturdays and Sundays with a Friday service over Christmas.
Following the launch of Amsterdam at the end of October 2011, this is the second European route bmibaby has launched from Belfast City Airport this year. During 2012 the low cost airline will launch six new sunshine routes from Belfast City Airport.

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Inventor Thomas Edison’s search for a better filament for his electric light bulb put this Gulf Coast city on the map.
Fort Myers was just a seaside village of 350 souls when Edison arrived in 1886. He thought the strands of a special species of bamboo growing here might be useful in his bulbs.
Nothing came of that, but his visit marked the beginning of his love affair with Fort Myers and when he, and best-buddy Henry Ford, adopted it as their winter retreat in the sun, America took note and a tourist haven was born.
All this is told in the winter “cottage” — in reality a small mansion — that Edison built, and in the house next door that Ford bought.
