Barcelona Nightlife

Tags: Barcelona, Barcelona Nightlife

The capital city of Catalonia, and the 2nd largest city in Spain, is Barcelona and its nearly 2 million residents.  One of its most attractive features where tourism is concerned is the fact that it is situated on the Mediterranean Sea’s northeastern coast.  The city has a rich culture and history that dates back some 2,000 years but it is known for so many other features that continue to attract tourists year in and year out.  In addition to the culture and the history, don’t overlook the Spanish cuisine and the many entertainment venues.

Despite how huge Barcelona is, there is something here for everyone, especially when it comes to the nightlife.  We’ve taken the time to list some of the more popular Barcelona nightlife spots, both with the locals and with international travelers alike.  Here are some places you should definitely consider visiting when you are vacationing in Barcelona:

Razzamatazz – situated right off the Marina Station, this popular venue definitely has everything that you could possibly be looking for in a nightlife venue.  It consists of several rooms, each of which features a different genre of music and the club is oftentimes revered to as the pinnacle of Barcelona’s diverse nightlife.

Chupitos – a multi-location establishment, you will find these throughout the area.  The bar is renowned for its diverse array of unique shot drinks and relaxing atmosphere.  Some of these shots are named after celebrities and other well known individuals including Harry Potter, Monica Lewinsky, and many others.

La Paloma – one of Barcelona’s more popular clubs among the locals, international travelers will quickly find that this establishment is a great place to meet and mingle with locals while discovering new friends in the process.  Be aware that it is currently closed for minor remodeling and will be open in the coming summer months.

London Bar – although this is basically a run-of-the-mill pub, the London Bar has been in operation since 1910.  In years gone by, this establishment was frequented by the likes of Dali, Hemingway, and Picasso, so it carries a historical allure for their patrons.  Here you will find one of the friendliest and liveliest atmospheres of any bar or pub in Barcelona.

La Concha – situated on Carrer de Guàrdia right off Carrer Nou de la Rambla, this bar is a hole in the wall that attracts a lot of the locals and expats.  It has the atmosphere of a gay bar that you would find in Morocco filled with 20 and 30 somethings who enjoy mingling with the tourists and making new friends.  It’s a fun place to visit for a relaxing drink in the afternoon after a day of shopping and/or sightseeing.  However, you would be wise to avoid this particular bar during the evenings as the neighborhood tends to get a little “seedy.”

101 places to go – High Force waterfall

Tags: Force Waterfall, High Force, High Force Waterfall, Waterfall

We were planning on adding High Force Waterfall as this week’s entry to ‘101 places to go’ because it allowed us to make a hilarious joke about April showers (seriously, it was brilliant). But wouldn’t you know, the weather’s been so lovely in the past few days that we’ll have to make do with letting England’s biggest waterfall sell itself.

Located in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the land surrounding High Force is worth a visit, even if you don’t take the tranquil woodland walk to the falls. Below are a couple of our favourite things to see and do.

Have you been to the North Pennines? Let us know you

Cottage of the week – Hathaway Hamlet

Tags: Week, Week Hathaway

With both St George’s Day and Shakespeare’s birthday taking place next week we thought finding a fantastic cottage of the week would be easy. And we were right, Stratford upon Avon isn’t short of stunning properties – the difficult part was narrowing the choice down to just one! Anyway, we finally focussed on the appropriately named Hathaway Hamlet, right in the heart of Shakespeare’s story.

While not actually the former residence of Shakespeare’s wife, Hathaway Hamlet is located just 200 yards from the famous cottage – and boasts an equally impressive architectural style and period. You’ll find b
